About Strasbourg

Strasbourg is a lovely city located at the border between France and Germany and is world known for being, with Brussels, the seat of the European institutions. Strasbourg's historic city centre, the Grande Île (Grand Island), was classified a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988, the first time such an honour was placed on an entire city centre. Strasbourg is immersed in the Franco-German culture and although violently disputed throughout history, has been a bridge of unity between France and Germany for centuries. The most famous monument of the city, which is also one of its emblem, is the cathedral. At 142 metres (466 feet), it was the world's tallest building from 1647 to 1874 (227 years), when it was surpassed by St. Nikolai's Church, Hamburg. Today it is the sixth-tallest church in the world and the highest extant structure built entirely in the Middle Ages. Gastronomy is also very important in Strasbourg and the city is full of beautiful restaurants offering different types of food from all over the world. Undoubtedly you will enjoy your stay in the capital of Alsace.
